Fragrance is characterized by its inaccessibility. We can't share it online. Our language for it is inadequate. Being limited to general terms and analogies to other scents, descriptions offer only a veiled conveyance of what a smell really smells like. It's hard to understand without experiencing for yourself. Therein lies the appeal of fragrance as art. A scent's true nature is a secret outside the charmed vale of those who have personally experienced it. And even then it is ephemeral, difficult to relive once the bottle is empty. Fragrances are known - or remembered - only in their communities. Like a lost book from ancient times, everyone else must settle for commentaries. This affords a certain freedom. One may sail ignoring the winds prevailing elsewhere. Much that matters and is good is like this.
